Kitesurfing in Lanzarote

Lanzarote is becoming more and more popular with European kitesurfers. Throughout summer regular winds blow giving excellent and consistent conditions. Lanzarote is located 50 miles off the Western Sahara Coast. Once the summer Azores high pressure sets up this creates the 'trade winds' which blow a cooling North Easterly wind across the island creating a comfortable temperature and dependable kiting conditions. Being a volcanic island that receives warm inland temperatures there are also local thermic wind conditions that occur. This means that if some parts of the island do not have winds others may well do, this normally blow during the hottest parts of the day.

Lanzarote is a four hour flight from most of Europe. The local airport is called Arrecife airport. Hire cars are readily available from the airport and prices are very reasonable.

The kitesurfing capital of Lanzarote is Famara. Here you will find the best and most consistent conditions. The beach also gets some great surf which can add a great deal of fun to your kitesurfing.

Accommodation in Famara is available.

There are several places in Lanzarote to kitesurf but the most popular is Famara beach.
